Jitka Hirvelä - Visual artist

Finnish-Czech, living in Jyväskylä, Finland. Born in Opava, Czech Republic 1982. Youth in Czech, mixed with current life in Finland surrounded by nature, are endless sources of inspiration to me.

In my photography I capture spontaneously fragments of time as they come. Subconsciously looking for details and shapes in nature as well as in architecture. Being drawn into hidden stories of staircases, airplanes, islands, trees or simply melting ice. While painting, I reflect my emotions through colours or ink in an abstract way. Combining photography with painting, creating mixed media art works, I can show the world how I see it. 

Thanks to polymer photogravure technique, I found a new way of expressing myself. My photos got completely new dimension, nostalgic and timeless feel. I am embracing all surprises that the technique and printmaking gives. 

In my work what matters to me is the feeling which it evokes both in the creator, as well as in the viewer. I wish the time spend with my art would, even for a little while, bring a good feeling, inspiration and empowerment to others as it does to me. 

I am a member of the Center for Creative Photography in Jyväskylä and Tunnekuvia-collective. Currently printmaking at workshop Ratamo, Jyväskylä.
